Meet the 2015 Rising Star

Now in its 11th year, the AFA Rising Star of the Year Award has unearthed some of the best and brightest talent in our industry. We spoke to this year’s very deserving winner, Kylie George.

Kylie George left Mildura in northern Victoria as a 17 year old to attend university in Melbourne. After more than a decade living and working in Melbourne as a wedding photographer, mortgage broking assistant and conveyancer, Kylie started advising in 2012 at Foxes Wealth and returned to Mildura in 2013 to join Harvest Wealth.

It’s a career change that paid off immediately, as Kylie quickly found herself at home in financial planning.

“I love my job because we get to change people’s lives,” Kylie said. “We help people explore their goals, then help them get there. I find satisfaction in what I do every day.”

The judges were easily able to recognise Kylie’s enthusiasm and passion for the financial services industry. She makes her clients feel comfortable throughout by simplifying the advice process and guiding them, which enables them to take ownership of their dreams and goals. After only a year as an adviser, Kylie was a finalist for the AFA Rising Star of the Year award in 2013. She made it to the top 10 in 2014 before winning this year’s award.

“Being nominated multiple times for this award has shown me that I’m on the right track, and that the extra work I do is valued by our industry. More importantly it tells me that I’m doing the right thing by my clients. Each year I learnt something new about myself and from the judges”.

Kylie is heavily involved in industry and community activities. This includes pro-bono work for the Cancer Council, volunteering for not-for-profit organisation Curious Grace which helps people suffering from mental illness get back into the workforce as well as judging for the Australian Business Week awards for year 10-12 students.

Kylie also runs a networking group for local business owners, and she teams up with a solicitor and accountant in Melbourne to help people in retirement villages with aged care, estate planning and tax advice as well as putting strategies in place to move their wealth to the next generation.

Kylie’s passion and willingness to take action from feedback she received each year and her drive to continually improve, made her a standout for this year’s award.
